30 masked gunmen suspected to be
cattle rustlers invaded Zamfara sending shockwave across the region in
an attack that resulted in the death of 29 people although the police
claimed only three died.
According to Vanguard, the tragic incident happened at about 4pm in Yanware town, Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.
It was reported that the masked men stormed the community and opened fire on residents.
Several persons were also injured in the attack and are currently receiving treatment in General Hospital, Tsafe.
According
to reports from some eyewitnesses, the men wore masks to disguise their
identity although there was suspicious they were from the community.
It was reported that the attackers moved to the next village to rob people of their money after the initial attack.
Isah
Adamu who resides in the town said he was lucky to be alive as he had
gone to purchase cooking ingredients only to return and see the effect
of the attack.
He said: “I was shocked when I was told through the phone by one of my neighbours that I should stop coming home and remain where I was.
I later decided to come back and see what was happening,
“Among the two bodies, one was my brother.”
The
state police spokesman, Shehu Mohammed, explained that only three
people were killed, adding that efforts were being intensified by the
police command to arrest the fleeing suspects.
